FACE School Foundation

The FACE School: a unique program in Québec!

For the past 30 years, the guiding mission at the FACE School Foundation has been to support, maintain, and enrich the FACE School Fine Arts program, and a wide range of activities aimed at improving the quality of life of the students.

FACE primary and secondary school, with its artistic vocation, is a flagship school in the Québec public education system. Since its founding in 1975, FACE has offered its 4 - to 17-year-old randomly selected students, from the two linguistic school boards in Montréal, a unique educational experience which focuses on personal fulfillment through the practice of four Fine Arts (choral music, instrumental music, visual arts, and drama), while also following the required program of the Ministry of Education.

Thanks to the success of its particular program which focuses on diversity, artistic expression and excellence, FACE enjoys close to a 100% success rate. It inspires and prepares young people to succeed in life. Children of all origins and all neighborhoods of Montréal have the opportunity to grow and to reach their full potential at FACE.

The role of the FACE Foundation is essential and very concrete. By its nature, the FACE program involves a considerable investment of time, expertise, material and financial resources: the numerous extracurricular orchestras and choirs perform throughout the year at numerous events and locales, and are regular recipients of recognition and prizes in provincial and national competitions.

Every year, amongst others events, Fine Arts programs at FACE offer:

  • Nine ensembles of extracurricular instrumental and vocal public music concerts (primary and secondary cycles)
  • More than fifty artistic productions per year: music, singing, theater
  • Visual arts exhibitions
  • An original, renowned, musical and dance show produced and orchestrated every year solely by the senior high school students.
  •

The FACE School Foundation funds and has funded the following types of initiatives

  • Buying and repairing of musical instruments
  • Constructed sound insulated cubicles to facilitate musical repetition sessions
  • Awards scholarships annually to celebrate the efforts and accomplishments of deserving students, and to support others financially in the pursuit of their artistic talents
  • Contributed to the comprehensive renovation of our magnificent school auditorium
  • Supports the school's musical ensembles, including the Orchester symphonique de l'école FACE (OSF)
  • Financed the installation of a stage for theatrical practice for the primary students
  • Coordinated the redevelopment of the northern back courtyard into a ‘green’ pedagogical terrace, the Enchanted Forest Frédéric Back
