Annual Scholarships & Awards
Each year, the Foundation awards prizes of excellence and scholarships to students who excel in the Fine Arts program. These include:
The Stéphane-Tétreault Scholarship, named in honor of a FACE alumnus who became a professional cellist, is awarded to several students in grades 5 through 10 who are selected for their talent and hard work in the string department. The amounts received vary each year (in 2016, they ranged up to $800) and give students a significant boost to further their art, for example, by enrolling in a specialized summer camp or purchasing a new, higher-performance instrument. This helping hand can make a real difference.
The Irwin and Freda Browns Award comes with a generous scholarship, which in 2017 was up to $750, and is given to graduating students in the string department who have been involved in the department's orchestras and ensembles for a long time.
On the vocal music side, the Patricia Abbott Award, accompanied by a $100 prize, is offered by this former artist-in-residence at the school for 11 years. It recognizes the talent of a graduating student who decides to pursue studies in voice.
In the wind department, the Kathie Perrett Award is given to a graduate who has distinguished themselves through their musical work, leadership, and involvement in extracurricular activities. It comes with a $100 prize.
The Francis Choinière Award, presented by the OPCM and worth $300, is awarded to a wind instrument graduate who chooses to pursue musical studies.
The Romane-Bonnier Award, in memory of this former FACE student, awarded by the OPCM and worth $300, is given to a graduating student who has distinguished themselves through their involvement in choral singing and who chooses to pursue their musical studies in singing.
The Guy-Vanier Scholarship, worth $600, is awarded to Secondary 5 students who have distinguished themselves in the visual arts, in order to support them in pursuing their studies at the college level. It is awarded thanks to the Marc-Vincent Vanier Grandfather Foundation, as well as contributions from Marc-Vincent Vanier himself, a recently retired visual arts teacher at FACE who left a lasting legacy at the school.
The Solange Guilbert Award, named in honor of the former community coordinator who left her mark on the school, is awarded to one or more students who have distinguished themselves through their social involvement in student life.
This list is not exhaustive and may vary from year to year. Thank you to the generous donors who make these awards possible, and congratulations to the recipients!
